Woman, child burnt to death for dowry

india Updated: Sep 25, 2009 22:49 IST

A woman and her baby son were burnt to death on Friday allegedly by her in-laws for failing to bring more dowry at Kewal village in Hydernagar police station in Palamu district.

"The in-laws allegedly poured kerosene on 22-year-old Tamanna Bibi and her two-year-son son before setting them ablaze in their house this afternoon. Her refusal to bring more dowry prompted her in-laws to kill them," DSP of Hussainabad, Surendra Prasad Singh told newsmen.

In an FIR lodged on the basis of Tamanna's mother, Sakina Bibi, it was alleged that her daughter was subjected to frequent torture for dowry since she got married to Izhar Khan three years ago.

The police detained Izhar's maternal uncle for interrogation whereas Izhar was reported to have fled from house.
