A 60-year-old woman was hacked to death by unidentified persons in the wee hours on Saturday in the Musanagar area of the district, police said.

The killing came just a day after the gruesome murder of another woman in Ghatampur area of the district.

The victim, Shaha Devi alias Bai ji was a widow. After the death of her husband, a retired army personnel, she used to live alone at her house in the Shihansipur area in Musanagar and survive on his pension, N Ravindra, Superintendent of Police, Kanpur (Rural) said adding she had a lot of property on her name.

Police suspect that the killing was done with an eye on her property. They are not ruling out the possibility of involvement of a close acquaintance of the victim in the murder.

"We are also trying to find out who would have benefited the most from her death," Ravindra said adding the body has been sent for post-mortem.

On Friday, a 58-year-old woman was found murdered with her head crushed in her house in Ghatampur area of the district. Her house was ransacked and jewellery and cash were missing from there.
