A 32-year-old woman on Friday landed in jail for getting a fake rape case registered against a shopkeeper of Fatehabad town.
The woman has been identified as Saroj Rani, a resident of Hisar district. She, along with Karambir Kumar and Rajbir (both in their 30s), had conspired to extort money from a shopkeeper who ran a garment shop at Chaar Marla colony in Fatehabad.
Rani visited Atul Kumar's shop on May 22 and after striking a conversation, she demanded to see more variety of clothes.
Atul took her to the third floor of the shop, where she started crying and called police who registered a rape case against Atul under Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Police got suspicious when Rani refused to undergo medical examination at the civil hospital as her two accomplices had allegedly struck a deal with Atul. They had allegedly demanded Rs 6 lakh in lieu of taking back the complaint. Meanwhile, Atul informed the police about the alleged extortion bid by the woman and her two accomplices.
At the civil hospital, Rani retracted from her statement before the magistrate and refused to undergo medical examination.
Police nabbed the woman's accomplices Karambir and Rajbir when Atul had gone to deliver the consignment of Rs 6 lakh to them on Friday and also recovered the amount from the accused.
The Fatehabad police registered a case under sections 389 (putting person in fear or accusation of offence), 506 (criminal intimation), 120-B (criminal conspiracy) and 384 (extortion) of the IPC. The trio has been sent to judicial custody.
