The Jalgaon Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested a ticket collector (TC) on Thursday for allegedly causing the death of a 32-year-old woman who was trying to board a moving train following a spat over her ticket.
According to sources in Jalgaon GRP, Ujjwala Nilesh Pandya and her two relatives had to board the Janata Express between 5.30am and 6am on Thursday to travel to Khandwa.
Pandya's relatives have alleged that the accused TC, Sampat Salunkhe, pushed her off the train while she was trying to board it.
Sources said Pandya had a ticket for the general compartment, but she tried to board a three-tier air-conditioned compartment when Salunkhe confronted her and asked her to go to the general compartment.
"The woman, however, again tried to board the AC compartment when the train had started to move. Her relatives alleged that Salunkhe first gave her a hand to pull her inside the coach but then pushed her off. Her body was cut into two pieces as she fell on the tracks," said a source in Jalgaon GRP.
Passengers stopped the train after which people allegedly roughed up Salunkhe before he was handed over to the police.
He has been booked and arrested under Section 304A of the Indian Penal Code for causing death due to negligence.
Sources said that prima facie, it is suspected that Salunkhe was drunk at the time of the incident.
He was subjected to a medical test to confirm the same, reports of which are awaited.
Pandya was a resident of Balajipeth in Jalgaon.
