Woman locks up rapist in a room: Police

india Updated: Sep 11, 2006 05:09 IST

A property dealer who used to help a 32-year-old woman financially, raped her in her house last week at gunpoint.

After the man raped the woman, she locked him up in a room with the help of her daughter and called the police.

The incident took place in Mansarovar Park last Saturday. Mahesh Gupta, the property dealer, belongs to Bulandshahr — the same place the woman hails from. As she had separated from her husband and was living with her two children, Gupta used to help her financially.

On Saturday, Gupta reached the woman's house and was told by her children that she was in the kitchen upstairs. Gupta went to the first floor and waited in a room for the woman.

As she entered the room, Gupta tried to take advantage of her. When she resisted, he took out his pistol and raped her.

Hearing her mother scream, the woman's 15-year-old daughter rushed upstairs and immediately understood what had happened. As Gupta got up to leave, the victim and her daughter managed to push him inside and locked the door from outside. They then immediately called the police.

Police opened the room and arrested Gupta. They recovered the pistol and five cartridges.

"The accused was arrested from the house. We have registered a case of rape," said Devesh Srivastava, DCP (northeast).
