A 22-year-old woman was allegedly molested inside the washroom of a reputed department store in Ghaziabad on Tuesday evening.

The police have arrested the accused, a 25-year-old driver, and lodged an FIR against him. The woman is a receptionist at the store located at Sector-14 in upscale Rajnagar.

The incident took place around 7pm when the woman went to use the washroom inside the complex where the departmental store is located.

The accused, Gulfam Ahmed, allegedly went inside the washroom and tried to molest the woman.

"She raised an alarm and ran outside after biting his hand. Later, she called up local people who nabbed the accused with the help of police. We have arrested the accused and lodged an FIR against him for molestation," superintendent of police (SP) SS Yadav told Hindustan Times.

The police said the accused manhandled the woman when she resisted his attempt. The accused is reportedly a driver with an advocate, who has an office on the first floor of the complex.

Yadav said that a case under section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Indian Penal Code was lodged against the accused at the Kavi Nagar police station.
