A WOMAN was allegedly murdered by a youth when she resisted his attempted to rape her at a farmhouse near Misrod on Friday. The accused has been taken into custody.

According to police, the body of Kavita Lodhi, 25, was found in her shanty at a farmhouse near Pipalia village where her husband Prakash alias Chhotu was employed. Prakash had been away to his ancestral village for the last few days.

She was alone in the house and when the police reached the house they found her throat slit and an electricity wire lying nearby. The killer had apparently tried to give the impression that she had died as a result of electrocution.

The Misrod police had received the information through an anonymous phone call from a PCO that a woman had died as a result of electrocution. After tracing the number the police reached the PCO and inquired the owner about appearance of the caller. Subsequently, on the basis of suspicion the accused, Mukesh, 36, who lived in a shanty nearby, was caught.

The accused confessed that he had attempted to rape the woman but failing to do so, strangulated her and hacked to death with the sickle, police said. The body has been sent for post-mortem.

The victim’s husband Prakash had asked Mukesh to take care of his wife. However, today Mukesh came to the house and found Kavita coming out of the makeshift bathroom outside the shanty. He saw him entering the shanty and the accused also barged in. He tried to rape her but she resisted strongly.

The accused subsequently murdered her. The post-mortem report would reveal whether the deceased was raped. The Misrod police have registered a case of murder and taken the accused in custody. He is being interrogated.
