The body of a 40-year-old woman was found hanging from a tree in a garden in Mulund (West) on Wednesday morning.

The police suspect that the deceased, Bhima Ganpat Mohanekar, committed suicide. No suicide note has been found.
Residents out for a morning walk at Vasant garden discovered the body around 8 am and informed the police. She had hanged herself using a saree.

“Mohanekar belongs to a tribal community and used to live in a shanty at Warli Pada in Thane with her daughter and son. Her husband had died some time ago,” said Mohansingh Rajput, police sub-inspector from Mulund police station. Warli Pada is on the Mulund-Thane border.

Police officials said no one saw Mohanekar leaving her house. “Her family members told us that she was addicted to alcohol,” another police official said, requesting anonymity.

The police do not suspect any foul play and have registered a case of accidental death. The body has been sent to Rajawadi hospital to ascertain the cause of death.
