A tribal woman from a village in Madhya Pradesh has alleged that a group of upper caste woman assaulted and attempted to strip her, police said on Thursday.

"A tribal woman, Phoolwati Bai, has accused a few women of Dend village Harda district of assaulting her," a police official said.

According to police, she had complained that Shakun, Beena and four other women dragged her out of her home on September 29, assaulted her, garlanded her with footwear and attempted to strip her.

The incident occurred after Phoolwati called a minor girl to her place for some work. When the girl reached her place, one Madanlal of the same village present there reportedly attempted to outrage the girl's modesty.

The girl, however, managed to escape and informed villagers about the incident after which Phoolwati was beaten up.

Superintendent of Police Sudhir Lad said: "Two arrests have already been made while the police is further investigating into the matter".
