A week after a Delhi-based girl was molested on the MG road on New Year eve, the National Commission for Women has taken suo motu action into the incident and asked the Gurgaon Police to submit the action taken report.
"We have decided to look into the matter as numerous such incidents have been reported in Gurgaon. Women are not safe in the city. We want to know what action the police took after the incident. None of the accused has been arrested," said Mamta Sharma, head of the National Commission for Women.
“On the other hand, the police stated that without any complaint, they cannot proceed in the case. The footage shows that one of the accused fell down after the police resorted to lathi-charge. He could have been arrested on the spot,” she added.
“Had the police arrested any of the accused, it could have given a tough message to such elements,” said Sharma.
“We did our best to save the girl but without any complaint, we cannot take legal action,” said Maheshwar Dayal, DCP (east), Gurgaon police.
