Youth workers of the Congress on Sunday blocked the National Highway (NH) at Khoon in Ramnagar constituency in a sign of protest against the alleged beating of its workers by supporters of the Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party on Saturday. They had blocked the highway and held demonstrations on Saturday too.
Protestors, who raised slogans against Ramnagar MLA Harsh Dev Singh and burned his effigies, alleged that Singh had planned an attack on Pradesh Youth Congress general secretary RS Pathania on Saturday, when Pathania and other party workers were travelling to Udhampur to attend a party convention.
Congress workers alleged that the police had not filed relevant charges against the accused. They added that if the police failed to arrest the accused within the next 24 hours, then they would organise an agitation.
