Manjeet Singh, the accomplice of main accused Vijay Veer Yadav in the toll plaza murder case, was sleepless even at 4am at home in village Shikohpur on Monday.
He was watching news channels airing the footage in which he himself had figured when the police arrested him from his home. The police have booked him on charges of destroying evidence and helping the accused to flee Gurgaon.
Manjeet, who runs a gym, was the first person Vijay Veer called after killing toll-booth operator Umesh Pandey, and informed him about his act.
Deputy commissioner of police (east) Maheshwar Dayal said after helping his friend by driving down to the toll plaza on his bike about 45 minutes after the shootout, Manjeet was in constant touch with Vijay Veer and also helped him in escaping from the town. Since then Manjeet had been regularly going through news reports.
“At 4am when we raided his house, he admitted he had rushed to the toll plaza on the request of Vijay Veer,” Dayal said.
And while Vijay Veer is in police custody, his family in Khoh village is in a state of shock after his arrest. The family said he was a normal man with no criminal background. However, there was no sign of repentance on the faces of the accused.
Vijay Veer, who is an arts graduate from Gurgaon College, worked as a marketing executive in Vipul Motors in Udyog Vihar from 2003 to 2009, when he lost his job. Later, he was running a gift shop in Gurgaon.
