Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday announced member of legislative council (MLC) Yash Pal Sharma as party candidate for the Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha seat.
A decision in this regard was taken in a meeting held under the leadership of PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed where all senior leaders of the party were present.
During the deliberations, consensus emerged on the name of Yash Pal Sharma, a refugee leader of Poonch, who is known for his secular credentials.
It was all due to his mass following and credibility that the PDP had nominated Yash Pal Sharma as MLC recently. Yash Pal Sharma, a native of Poonch district, is a known figure in the entire Jammu province. He has been active in politics for the past 50 years and has played a very important role in various agitations launched in Poonch and Rajouri districts from time to time.
He has been in the forefront of various agitations launched for "all-time settlement" of issues of refugees from other side of Line of Control (LoC). Known as "Sher-e-Poonch", Sharma has a long association with Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
He has played an important role in spreading message of the PDP in Poonch and Rajouri districts. PDP leaders, who were present in the meeting, appreciated party leadership for selecting Yash Pal Sharma as party candidate for the Poonch-Rajouri seat. They said there was a strong wave in favour of the PDP and nomination of a strong candidate like Yash Pal Sharma would help the party win this Lok Sabha seat.
