BJP patriarch and former Union minister LK Advani said that former party MP Yashwant Sinha has the potential to lead the party in the next assembly polls in Jharkhand.

Advani was talking to reporters outside Hazaribagh central jail after meeting Sinha on Tuesday. He said, "Yashwant has raised a good issue (of the worsening power situation) in public interest. The BJP will carry forward the movement spearheaded by him. I have advised him to come out of jail with dignity and lead the agitation which enjoys people's support in the state."

“Electrification of every village is a priority for the BJP as mentioned in the election manifesto. Yashwant has taken up the issue. The entire BJP is with Yashwant. Every village of Jharkhand will get electricity when we come to power in the state,” Advani said.

Advani had arrived by helicopter at the Wales's ground helipad in Hazaribagh around 12.30 pm and driven to the central jail. He entered the jail at 12.45 pm and met Sinha who is on judicial remand till June 28.

Advani also visited the state ward in jail and met party workers who were also with Sinha and were serving jail terms for tying up the Hazaribagh area general manager of Jharkhand Urja Vikas Nigam Limited to a chair in protest against the poor power situation.

Advani had gone to that special ward of the jail where freedom fighters like Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Jai Prakash Narayan and other prominent leaders were kept and paid homage to them.

BJP state president and MP Ravindra Rai, former chief minister Arjun Munda and Hazaribagh MP and Yashwant's son Jayant Sinha were also present there.
