HE CAN completely swallow a 26-feet silk turban and can pull it out after some time. This magical “Yoga Kriya’’ performer is 92-year-old Pandit Ramgopal Vyas, who worked as teacher in Middle School No 25 at Chawni in Indore.
Vyas performed this Yoga feat in front of the media at the Indore Press Club this morning. He had claimed to swallow 28 feet turban, but could swallow only 26 feet.
According to Vyas, this is a type of Yoga that helps clean the intestines and food pipe, thus improving the digestive system.
He said this cannot be performed after sunrise and that was the reason he could not swallow the cloth completely. The nonagenarian said that this ‘Kriya’ should not be performed more than once and that he was performing it after several years.
He explained that the turban is swallowed and allowed to enter the stomach. It cleans the impurities in the stomach and large intestine and must be pulled out after ten minutes, he cautioned.
Talking about learning this process, Vyas said that the beginners must increase one feet length every day and the complete ‘Kriya’ can be learnt in 26 days. A small portion of the turban is allowed to remain outside so that it can be pulled back. He advised consumption of ghee or application of honey on the end of the cloth if any problem occurs while performing this type of yoga. Expectant mothers should refrain themselves from practising this.
Inspired by Baba Ramdev, Vyas’ face lit up while sharing about his three meetings with Ramdev and his next in Haridwar in August. He revealed that Baba Ramdev has taught him various unique postures.
His love for yoga began after he attended a seven-day yoga camp in Bhopal. After attending that camp he began learning yoga on a regular basis. He took permission from his school to join maximum number of yoga camps as possible and learnt several Kriya’s and started taking yoga classes.
Vyas said that Lord Shiva knew 77 lakh Yogic postures out of which only one can be performed after lunch. Vyas takes free yoga classes in Sai Mandir Chhattribag.
Addressing the gathering Vyas spoke about methods to reduce weight. He said that rice when chewed properly helps in weight loss.
He explained ‘Gajkarini yoga’ in which the person drinks lots of water in the morning and then vomit it to reduce weight. Vyas said yoga can cure every ailment and it also helps combat stress. He suggested that pickle, curd and citrus items must not be consumed at night.
