It’s not just your votes the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) wants — your mobile handsets, cash, furniture, spare cars and now even your homes will do.
AAP has been asking Delhiites to donate to it in cash and kind. The latest on the party’s wish list is a home for volunteers visiting the city in the run up to the Assembly elections scheduled for December 4.
The party is hoping Delhiites will come forward and offer their houses free of cost to its visiting volunteers. Already, nearly 1,200 volunteers from outside Delhi have been accommodated across the city. But with the poll date nearing, the Arvind Kejriwal-led party is expecting more volunteers from across India to arrive in the national capital.
“We are expecting at least 7,000 more volunteers from across India by month-end,” said a party official. A few of them are ready to manage their own accommodation, but the party will have to make arrangements for the rest.
“We have already started getting calls from several Delhiites. Someone is offering his flat, someone his bungalow. One person even called to say he can accommodate two persons in his house and can take care of their food too,” he added.
The party’s central office is already taking care of the needs of 400 volunteers. About 50-100 volunteers are working in different constituencies and the candidates from those areas have taken on the burden of their accommodation. AAP has already constituted a 10-member volunteer management team as well.
Almost 99 per cent of AAP party offices across Delhi constituencies are run from spaces offered free of cost by their owners. AAP’s central office at Hanuman Road, a prime location, was offered to the party by its owner for Rs. 1 per month. The central office has also received more than 50 mobile handsets, 15 laptops and three cars. Each constituency too has received similar donations across Delhi.
