The Mahagaon police have arrested an accused in a rape case who went into hiding after committing the crime.
The police said they arrested the accused Datta Kisan Ade (22), a resident of Savana village who fled to Mumbai and stayed there for over 10 days after committing the crime.
He returned to the village on Friday assuming the matter would have subsided. However, the police got a tip off about him and took him into custody for interrogation. He allegedly confessed to the crime.
The accused had allegedly dragged a minor girl to an adjacent farm while she was going to Mudana village along with her grandmother and raped her.
The grandmother shouted for help but the accused fled from the spot before the villagers reached there.
The grandmother took the girl to the Mahagaon police station and lodged a complaint.
The police then sent the girl to the hospital for medical examination and the report confirmed that she was raped.
