AN ARMED robber fired inside the cabin of a petrol pump and escaped with around Rs 30,000 near Phanda village in Khajuri in the wee hours of Wednesday.
The incident occurred at Kartar Fill and Fly Petrol Pump at around 3.45 am. Staff of the petrol pump was about to go to sleep, as the petrol pump remains shut between 4 am and 6 am when a vehicle came for petrol.
The driver came to pay inside the cabin where the supervisor and delivery boys were present. However, a youth armed with revolver suddenly barged in and asked the driver to hand over the cash (Rs 3,000) to him.
The driver mocked him saying that he has seen many such toys, the youth fired in the air to threaten the staff. The bullet grazed past the driver after hitting the wall of the cabin.
The youth took the cash and also asked the staff of the petrol pump to hand him over the entire money from the collection box. He fled after taking around Rs 36,000. His face could not be seen clearly as the accused was wearing a monkey cap apart from jeans and a jacket. He came on foot and also went away walking. The petrol pump staff informed the owner Ravindra Singh Bagga, who then called the Khajuri police.
Initially the police did not buy the complainants’ version that the accused had shot at the driver. Later, however, forensic experts confirmed that the bullet was fired.
The youth and disappeared in the fields behind the petrol pump. Khajuri police have registered a case of robbery on the complaint of a petrol pump employee, Atul Kumar.
