A youth has been sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment by a Reasi court for abducting and raping a 7-year-old girl two years back in Karwa village of Reasi district. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the convict, Ajay Kumar, and in default of payment, the accused will have to serve additional jail term of one year.

On May 7, 2011, the victim had gone to attend a wedding with her elder sister, where she went missing. She was later found weeping outside the house of a villager and told her father that an unidentified person raped her. After conducting investigations, the police arrested Ajay and booked him under section 376 of the RPC.

In his verdict, principal sessions judge, Reasi, Rajesh Sikiri, said, “I am of considered opinion that the prosecution has categorically proved beyond shadows of all reasonable doubts that victim, a minor girl of about 7 years, was kidnapped by the accused and raped.” The youth was sentenced to 10 years' rigorous imprisonment.
