A youth who had eloped with a married woman was beaten to death allegedly by her family at their house in Moga, police said on Saturday.
Nachittar Singh was allegedly lured into the house by her lover, a resident of Mari Gurusar village, at the behest of her family where he was killed last evening, they said.
Baghapurana police has registered a case of murder against four persons, including one Mukhtiar Singh and his brother Darshan Singh.
No arrest has been made as the family fled after the killing.
Investigations revealed that the victim was having an affair with a married woman and they had eloped a few months back.
Later, on the intervention of the village panchayat, the woman agreed to return home. However, unable to take the humiliation, the woman's family plotted to kill Nachittar.
In another incident, a 35-year-old mother of four committed suicide along with her paramour by consuming poison in Inder Kalan village.
The bodies of Paramjit Kaur and Gurmeet Singh alias Meeta were found in a field near the village Kokari Phula Singh Friday morning.
According to Mehna Police, the two were missing from the village since Thursday morning.
Paramjit apparently wanted to live with her lover Gurmeet though he belonged to very poor family but was afraid that it would not be accepted by her family, they said.
The bodies were sent for post-mortem at the civil hospital.
