Youth sets self afire, jumps to death on Kolar Road

A YOUTH committed suicide by setting himself afire and jumping off a multi-storey building in the Kolar area on Tuesday afternoon. He fell on the road and died on the spot. The head injuries resulted in his death. The deceased could not be identified.

The jumping of the youth from the building in flames shocked the passers-by at the time. Kolar Station Officer Ramjilal Sharma said the incident occurred around 12.15 pm. The youth poured petrol and set him afire before jumping from a roof of the building in the Bima Kunj on the Kolar Road.

The local residents told police that the deceased was an outsider. Nobody in the area recognised him. The police recovered a bottle containing petrol from the roof.

No document or identity card, which could help in identification, was recovered from the pocket of deceased. He appeared a middle-class youth, around 25-year-old.  Three currency notes in Rs 100 denomination were found in his wallet. The Kolar police are trying to ascertain the identity of the deceased. The reason for his committing suicide in such a manner was not known.
