Youth take SMS route to aid poor students

Students of Jai Hind College at Churchgate in Mumbai have launched a dedicated SMS number. People who want to assist students from underprivileged sections can register here and pledge funds.

The endeavour, which seeks to raise about Rs 5 lakh is part of the annual inter-collegiate festival Talaash that commences next month. But the fund collection has already started.

Interested people can type Talaash and send the SMS to the dedicated number (3650). The students of the college will get in touch with the people sending the message and later collect funds.

Besides, each student of the college is contributing Rs 1,000 for the purpose. Students are also approaching clubs to gerner funds to help students from the the underprivileged sections.

The drive, which started on Saturday, will conclude on Tuesday, when the annual function of the college commences.
