THE SON of a temple priest set himself ablaze at home after an altercation with his mother on Wednesday. He later succumbed to the burns in the hospital.
According to police, Rajendra, 22, son of Ravindra Das, priest of Bagulamukhi Mandir near Kotra Sultanabad, poured kerosene on self and set himself afire in the afternoon. He was rushed to hospital where he died.
In his statement, Rajendra told the police that he was fed up of himself and decided to end his life. However, sources said his mother had scolded him in the morning asking him to focus on his studies.
This led to an altercation and he misbehaved with his mother. However, he later regretted his action and burnt himself to death. The Kamla Nagar police have registered a case and begun investigations.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident a man was robbed of his gold chain and wallet in Piplani on Tuesday night. Police said DK Dubey, 27, resident of Indrapuri, was going to his aunt’s house in neighbouring locality when three youths standing beside a motorcycle waved at him.
Dubey felt that they had run out of petrol and stopped. However, they overpowered him and robbed him of his gold chain, wallet that contained nearly Rs 2,000 and ATM cards. The police have begun investigations.
