On Sunday, Hindustan Times held the first orientation session for the volunteers of ‘enroll a child’ at India Habitat Centre.
‘Enroll a child’ is a part of the Hindustan Times initiative, You Read They Learn (YRTL). Child Rights and You (CRY) is the NGO partner of this campaign.
Over 1,700 people have expressed their interest in volunteering for this cause. Due to such a huge response, HT will be conducting multiple orientation sessions.
The volunteers will be guided by a team of mentors from CRY. The volunteers will identify children who are out of school and after convincing their parents, they will get the child enrolled in the nearest MCD school.
YRTL campaign was launched in April 2012. Gautam Gambhir, the face of the YRTL initiative, congratulated HT and the volunteers who were in attendance.
“This initiative is very close to my heart. There is no bigger cause than sending children to school,” he added.
Shantanu Bhanja, business head and vice president, HT Media Limited, said: “Under this initiative, we were able to send 10,812 children to school in one year. I would like to thank HT readers for their support.”Yogita Verma Saighal, director, CRY was also present at the event.
“I am overwhelmed with the kind of response we have received. Moments like these give you hope that things will change,” she said.HT will conduct the next orientation session on June 29.
