The sixth edition of the India Art Fair, which begins on January 31 in Delhi, will exhibit works of 1,000 artists from around the world.
In a discussion with Wol Balston, the cultural communication director of Flint PR (which is managing the fair), event director Neha Kirpal took a stroll down memory lane on Thursday.
She highlighted how a nascent dream evolved into a big-ticket event, which attracts participants from the country and abroad.
Kirpal added the event had emerged as a platform where academicians and researchers could closely monitor the changing language of art. "This fair provides a world-class platform."
Shireen Gandhy, chairperson of Chemould galleries, threw light on the business aspect of the event.
Gandhy talked about cross-culture networking, international patronage and gallery collaborations across the globe — which helped India become an art hotspot.
This year, galleries from small cities such as Jaipur and Chandigarh will also showcase traditional art forms specific to the regions.
"From buyers and collectors, the whole community is small, but evolving," said Sandy Angus, chairman of Montgomery Worldwide, a global events company.
