The Ratangarh police station and women’s cell in Neemuch district on Wednesday faced an unusual conundrum after two persons lodged complaints claiming to be the husband of the same woman from Alori Garwada village.
Neemuch women’s cell in-charge Daulatram Jogawat said the incident surfaced after Mainakumari, a resident of Alori Garwada village, got married to Gopal, son of Heeralal Bhambhi, from Rajasthan.
When the news of their marriage spread in the village, Munnalal Bhambhi, a local resident, filed a complaint claiming to be the woman’s husband.
“We both entered into wedlock at a tender age and am the only husband of Mainakumari,” complainant Munnalal Bhambhi said.
The complainant claims his family spent big money on his marriage, yet her family refused to send her over to her in-laws.
On the other hand, Gopal on Wednesday appeared before the women’s cell to share his side of the story. He too claims to be only lawfully wedded husband of Mainakumari.
Mainakumari too agrees with Gopal. “We both got married recently and are living happily,” she told the police.
The police have sought help from the community elders to resolve the issue, else a legal route would be explored.
