A constable posted with Bhopal Lokayukta was beaten to death over a land dispute in his native village under Kala Peepal police station of Shajapur district on Thursday.
Police have lodged a case and started investigation.
Sub-divisional officer of police (SDOP) DK Jain said that constable Manohar Patidar had come to his village Ramni about three days ago. On Thursday evening, Manohar had a brawl with some people of the village over a land dispute.
"There was land dispute between Manohar Patidar and Ramchandra Patidar. It was going on since 2010 and the matter is pending in court. On Thursday, a brawl erupted and soon it turned violent. Rammchadra's family members alleged Manohar Patidar first shot at Ramchandra following which members of Ramchandra's family started beating Manohar leading to his death," said Jain.
The SDOP further said that police have booked Ramchandra, Deepak, Ashilesh, Santosh and another for the murder and investigations are on.
