In a daring daylight robbery on Saturday, two bike-borne youngsters shot dead a private firm employee and sped away with his bag containing Rs 1.87 lakh.

The incident took place on Indore’s busy Nemawar Road when Kailash Chand, 52, an oil mill employee, was carrying the firm’s cash to be delivered to a person.

The two miscreants were on a white TVS Apache bike which was stolen from Patidar Dharmashala on December 5, according to police. The miscreants, in their mid-20s, first tried to snatch the bag from Chand, who also was on a bike, but after failing to do so, they threw chilli powder on his face. However, when Chand offered resistance, the duo shot him dead and sped away with the bag, eyewitnesses said.

The police have registered a case against two unidentified robbers. Superintendent of police (West) Abid Khan said, “The deceased sustained a single shot injury. We are investigating the case and till now we have not got any concrete lead in the case." However, eyewitnesses told HT that they heard two shots before Chand fell on the road.

"While fleeing, the robbers lost control of the bike but somehow managed to flee," said an eyewitness.

A commuter, Abhishek Yadav, rushed Chand to hospital where he was declared brought dead.
