The Congress party is going to lodge a complaint with chief secretary Antony D’Sa and demand action against Indore Development Authority (IDA) CEO Rakesh Singh for touching the feet of Union minister Narendra Singh Tomar at a public function on Monday.
Congress spokesperson Narendra Singh Saluja said the IDA CEO’s action was against civil services’ rules and protocol. “The dignity of the post of the IDA CEO has been (diminished) by this act and it is not possible to expect impartial work (from) the official,” Saluja said.
The Congress spokesman said it was understandable if Singh had touched Tomar’s feet at a private function, but it was highly objectionable at a public event.
It may be mentioned here that on Monday, the video of Singh touching Tomar’s feet went viral on social media, prompting Singh to say that he had touched Tomar’s feet as the latter was a family friend with a relation going back 26 years.
Nonetheless, local administration officials in Indore and a senior General Administration Department official in Bhopal had called Singh’s action inappropriate and that it brought disrepute to the service.
