Some unidentified miscreants looted a bag containing Rs 20 lakh in broad daylight by smashing the window glass of a car parked outside a bank in Dewas on Tuesday.

The incident occurred at 12pm outside an Axis Bank branch in Dewas under Kotwali police station limit.

According to police, at the time of incident, a grain merchant Sharad Agrawal along with his brother Dhanraj Agrawal and accountant Dilip went inside the bank for some work parking the car containing the bag.

The Agrawals in their police complaint had claimed that they had withdrawn the money from a ICICI Bank in the morning.

Later, they went to the Axis Bank for some work when the crime happened.

Sharad said, it may be possible that finding the car without an occupant, the miscreants executed their plan and fled away with the bag.

City superintendent of police (CSP) TS Baghel said that during preliminary investigation it was clear that someone close to the Agrawals is involved in the crime. Officer said the modus operandi suggested a well hatched conspiracy.

"The miscreants were well aware about the cash in the car and prepared to execute the plan," Baghel said.

Meanwhile, police has detained driver Bhupendra and is interrogating him. The police have also procured CCTV image and are scanning it for clues.

Sharad said he doesn't suspect the driver but can't deny involvement of any close associate.
