A team of Emirates Airlines conducted a survey at Indore airport for the proposed launch of Indore-Dubai flight.
The team also took stock of the infrastructure at the airport. A technical team of the airlines is also expected to land here in the coming days to inspect the runway and other facilities. The survey included estimated passenger traffic from Indore and nearby areas for a direct Indore-Dubai flight, an airport official said.
The Emirates Airlines has already applied to Union civil aviation ministry for permission to launch international flights from Indore. Emirates Airlines is also interested in linking the passenger flights to cargo services.
State urban administration and development minister Kailash Vijayvargiya had met the officials of Emirates Airlines during his visit to Dubai in September this year. After returning from Dubai, he had said that the government is giving full support to the airline, which is also keen to start a Indore-Dubai flight.
The Indore airport management has also taken steps to launch international flights. Indore airport has the infrastructure to launch international flights and the airport management has sent a proposal for starting an excise and customs clearance counter to the director general of civil aviation (DGCA).
The government has also provided statistics related to the export of medicines from the region to foreign destinations following which Emirates showed interest to launch international flight from Indore.
