A 22-year-old woman was allegedly gang raped by four men in a field on Thursday night when she was out for a walk with her boyfriend, police said. The woman had gone to a vacant field situated behind a township on Ring road with her male friend.
Four youngsters, who were in an inebriated state, got hold of woman’s male friend and dragged the woman some distance away and allegedly gang raped her, said superintendent of police (east) OP Tripathi.
The woman’s medical reports have confirmed rape.
A case has been registered and two of the accused, Sumit and Dharmendra have been arrested, he said.
The SP further said that two other accused, Shahrukh and Sonu are absconding and a hunt is on to nab them.
The woman in her complaint said that three of the youngsters caught hold of her male friend and snatched away his mobile phone.
The fourth youngster, dragged her some distance and raped her. She was then raped by another accused, she told police.
She further told police that her male friend somehow managed to free himself from the clutches of two youngsters and reach Azad Nagar police station, where he narrated the incident.
Tripathi said police reached the spot immediately but by then the youngsters had fled. The woman was located at some distance.
On the basis of description provided by the woman and some local residents, police arrested Sunit, a resident of Shivnagar, who admitted that he had committed the crime.
He gave name of other three other youngsters present on the spot, he said.
“A person informed police that four youngsters were consuming alcohol in the field. We cordoned off the area and nabbed Sumit, who committed the crime.”
Police arrested Dharmendra from Azad Nagar. Two other accused are absconding.
Police are scanning the crime records of the accused and investigation is going on, Tripathi said.
Police said that Sunit is student of Class 11, but not a minor.
