When Team India is in town, can one expect an MS Dhoni fan Ram Babu not to be around? It rhymes as well as Babu’s love for MS Dhoni and cricket.

Babu, 30, whose almost every cheer trip is being sponsored by his ideal Dhoni since 2008, has come all the way from Mohali to buck up India during the India-South Africa one-dayer scheduled in Indore on Wednesday.

He said he attended all the matches in Kolkata, Kanpur and then came here. “From here I will be heading to Rajkot and so forth. Once the series gets over I will be back home with my wife and kids,” said a father of two, whose wife looks after the household affairs once he is out cheering India.

Cricket audiences can spot him easily as he is a kind of fixture in Team India T-shirt with Dhoni printed on it, compelling broadcast cameras to zoom in on him.

But how did he become dear to Dhoni? “I was a cricket buff and would watch every match of Team India. Going to the stands and cheering Indian players is something about which I was very passionate,” said Babu, who was a regular feature during every practice match, test series and one-dayers. During one such session, Dhoni spotted his undying passion and obliged him with sponsoring his cheer trips .

Babu said, “I admired Dhoni Sir, for his style and his calm attitude. When I first saw him play in 2008, I decided to sport his looks as well. I grew my hair and got them coloured too,” he said.

“Dhoni sir helps me with match tickets of every match which happens. In international matches outside the country, I often get the chance to go with them.”
