The Indore Development Authority (IDA) has drawn a roadmap to construct about 2,000 affordable houses in the city in the coming fiscal year 2015-16, the officials have said.
During a board meeting held on Thursday it was decided that construction of affordable housing will be the focus area for the IDA in the coming fiscal year.
The size of IDA’s budget may also go up in the next year as many development projects, which were stalled following elections and difficulties faced in land acquisition last year, may take off this year.
"It is very pre-mature to say that the budget allocation will increase, it is only a preliminary meeting," said IDA chairman Shankar Lalwani.
Under the Atal Awaas Yojna, IDA is planning to develop about 750 low cost houses for economically weaker sections in Rau and Nihalpura.
According to sources, the proposal for the project has been already sent to the government and sanction is awaited.
The authority has also planned to develop about 1200 - 1250 low cost houses in scheme no. 136, 78, 135, 102 and 103.
Land acquisition has been the major bone of contention for IDA last year with stakeholders demanding more than double the market price of land as compensation.
