A fine bowling performance by Amit Mishra (6/26) led to a four-wicket win of Uttar Pradesh (UP) against Madhya Pradesh (MP) in the Ranji Trophy Group-A match at Indore’s Holkar Stadium on Wednesday.
In the wake of the win, UP obtained four points.
In fact, the fourth and final day of the match turned into a battle of nerves between the two teams.
So, the UP middle order held their nerves and romped home by chasing the 180-run target with the help of Parvinder Singh (41) and skipper Piyush Chawla (24 not out).
UP resumed their innings on Wednesday from the overnight score of 82 for four wickets with Parvinder Singh (9 not out) and night watchman Amit Mishra (0 not out) at the crease.
The duo added 42 runs for the fifth wicket to give visitors an upper hand. While Parvinder scored 41 runs, Mishra made 26.
However, UP lost Mishra’s wicket with 123 runs on board and needing 57 runs to win.
Parvinder (41) and Eklavya Dwivedi (16 not out) built a fine partnership in the sixth wicket.
Just as the scored reached 148, Puneet Datey of MP removed Parvinder but Eklavya and skipper Piyush Chawla negated all the efforts of the MP bowlers to cause further damage and batted for 12 overs.
For Madhya Pradesh, Avesh Khan got four wickets conceding 84 runs in 20 overs.
Interestingly, the pace bowlers from both sides dominated the game.
