The Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) on Monday pulled down two truckloads of illegal banners, posters and hoardings bearing either overt or covert political messages, a day after the model code of conduct came into effect.

Posters, banners etc, were removed from VIP Road VIP Route No 2 and Mhow Naka, among other sites. The cleanup was still continuing when this report was filed at around 9 pm.

"We will continue removing the banners till midnight," said deputy municipal commissioner Mahendra Singh Chauhan. He said the entire area under municipal limits had been carved into 21 routes for the poster banner cleanup exercise.

"We will try to remove the material from all routes in three days," said Chauhan, who is heading a team of around 20 employees and six-odd vehicles. Once the cleanup is complete, it will be the responsibility of zone officers to ensure that no new illegal banners or posters come up, he added. Violators would be booked under the Defacement of Property Act, he added.
