Five youths drowned in two separate incidents in Indore and Khargone during immersion of Ganesh idols on Monday. Three persons drowned in Gambhir river near Hatod village during the 'visarjan' in the morning on Monday.
Hatod police identified the deceased as Krishna (19), son of Omkarlal Rathore; Prakash (23) son of Yogiram Rathore, and Rajat (19), son of Pradeep Yadav -- all from Shubham Palace, Scheme 51, Indore.
So far police have been able to fish out only Krishna’s body, and efforts are on to find the bodies of Prakash and Rajat. Speaking to Hindustan Times, Hatod police station incharge S R Uchaaria said the incident happened when the trio had gone to Gambhir river along with other members of locality for immersion of Ganesh idol in the morning.
When they were in the river, the water level rose suddenly as two sluice gates of Yeshwant Sagar lake had been opened to let out excess water. The three youths could not keep their balance in the strong current and drowned, the police said.
Two other youths from Rodiya village drowned in the Ambak river near Bedia, about 35-kilometre east of Khargone district headquarters. The deceased were identified as Ravindra and Heeralal, both in their mid-twenties.
The incident occurred at around 5 pm when they were swept away by the strong water current. In a separate incident, Mohammed Shakur (25), son of Mohammed Zahoor, resident of Hammal Mohalla, Mhow drowned in the Choral river after an epileptic attack.
