Indore mayor Malini Gaud on Saturday announced new departments and the list of the corporators who were given their charge.
She said the departments would work towards making Indore a smart city with good infrastructure and facilities. Keeping the changing needs of the society in mind, some new departments — such as planning and information technology and urban poverty alleviation — were introduced for the first time.
Along with the new departments, some existing departments too were given a makeover with new profiles and focus.
For instance, considering the problem of sewerage in a number of areas in the city, the water works department from now on will be called water works and sewerage department.
While the revenue department was given to Suraj Kero, the most talked about information and technology department went to Sudhir Dedge.
While the general administration department fell in Chandu Rao Shinde’s kitty, Ashwini Shukul was made in-charge of the electricity and engineering department.
The urban poverty alleviation department was handed over to Shubha Garg, who is the only woman corporator to feature in the ten-member-in-council.
"It's an attempt to bring a change in the working of the IMC. We wanted it to perform more specific roles in the society. Also the challenges faced by the society are very different from the past," said Malini Gaud
