A mentally challenged woman was rescued on Sunday night from a house in Indore's Chandan Nagar slum area where she was allegedly confined and gang-raped, police said.

The woman had been missing since Friday, and her mother had lodged a missing complaint with police. Following a tip-off, police raided the house where she was kept and rescued the woman. One of the accused was nabbed, while three others managed to escape, police said.

According to police, the woman, who lives in the Karbala area, left her house without telling anyone, and didn't return. Her mother told police that her daughter was mentally challenged and lodged a complaint.

Police said the youths who had raped the victim had told her that they would get her married to a mentally challenged youth living in that area, and had left her with the youth. When the mentally challenged youth tried to rape her, she protested. Hearing her cries, neighbours informed police, who in turn rescued her.

Chandan Nagar TI Vinod Dixit said the mentally challenged youth has been arrested, and that both the woman and the youth have been sent for medical examination.
