Indore: Minor molested in van, family demands action

A day after a school van driver allegedly attempted to molest a four-year-old girl, infuriated family members of the victim on Friday met district education officer (DEO) and demanded action against the school administration.

The family members of the girl alleged that the school administration attempted to hush up the matter. The said the school claimed that none of van drivers associated with them (school) can commit such an act.

According to Aerodrome police, a case has been lodged against Babloo Soni (25), a resident of Akhand Nagar.

Though Aerodrome police arrested Soni, he was later handed over to Malharganj police since, as the crime had occurred near Bhooteshwar temple, under Malharganj police station limits.

Soni drives a school van to pick up and drop children and had allegedly tried to molest the minor student in the van near Bhooteshwar temple.

One of the family members of the victim said Kishore Shinde, the DEO, assured them departmental inquiry against the school administration.

“We want the department to take stringent action against the school administration, which tried to downplay the matter. We want the authorities to cancel the school’s affiliation,” a family member said.

Later, the kin of the tried to meet district collector. Unable to meet him, they later submitted a memorandum to additional district magistrate (ADM).

When contacted, Shinde told HT that the school education department will never take such an incident lightly and will take action against the guilty.

“We have served notice to the school administration and also formed a panel of three school principals to investigate into the matter at the department level,” Shinde said.

“During the investigation, the panel will see how the school administration appointed a driver without checking his background and if the school administration is found guilty, the department will cancel the school’s affiliation,” he added.
