In a major haul, the narcotics wing of Madhya Pradesh police seized 44 quintals of poppy husk (doda chura) being transported illegally by a truck near Sabakhera phata, around 10 kms from Mandsaur, late on Monday night.
Two persons have been arrested in the bargain and the truck has also been impounded. The seized poppy husk is worth around Rs 1 crore.
Narcotics wing superintendent of police (Mandsaur) TS Baghel, said that those arrested are Joginder Singh (52) and Sodiram Sohanlal (25), both residents of Hoshiarpurw, Punjab. Both have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
Baghel said that they had received a tip off about the consignment and found the truck parked near a factory making mats, situated near the Sabakhera Phatak. On inspection, they found the truck filled with doda chura.
Baghel added that according to the statements of the accused they were taking the consignment to Punjab. Baghel said that they are trying to find out from whom the doda chura had been purchased and to whom were they going to sell it. "We are trying to find out whether either of the two has a criminal record and a team is being sent to Hoshiarpur," Baghel said. This is the second major haul of doda chura by the Mandsaur unit of narcotics wing in two months. Last month they had seized 40 quintals of doda chura from the Narayangarh police station area.
