Jaguar announced the launch of its 2014 Jaguar XJ in Indore on Tuesday. The XJ 3.0L Diesel will be available in two variants and is locally manufactured at Jaguar's Pune plant.
Jaguar Land Rover India vice-president Rohit Suri said, "We are delighted to introduce our flagship Jaguar XJ, the epitome of extraordinary luxury, in Indore. XJ has innovative features that provide an enhanced appeal to discerning and successful individuals who have a refined taste for elegant British style, luxury, design and sophistication."
Interestingly, with the launch of several new variants of luxury cars in Indore recently, the demand for high-end luxury cars seems to have gone up.
In the last one year, Indore has seen the launch of premium luxury models of automobile companies such as Audi, Mercedes and BMW. An estimate says that the demand for sports cars, which start at Rs 1 crore and go up to Rs 2.5 crore, is rising at the rate of 200% per annum.
Also, industry experts believe that the current year may see a sharp rise in sports cars in Indore and Bhopal.
Mercedes, which has its showroom in Indore, is also hopeful of tapping the emerging market. The company has models like SLK, SL and E Coupe in the segment.
Local BMW car dealer in Indore, Infinity, also has models like 330D, 650I and Z4 currently on offer in the segment.
Dealers say that while luxury cars have been the fancy of the business community, they are now capturing the attention of the nouveau riche spanning engineers, doctors, fat-salaried MNC executives as well as those in the real estate business.
And exactly this section in the state is now seen as the potential target customer by luxury carmakers.
