Crime branch team has arrested Rinku Verma (37) and his accomplice Pappu alias Yogendra from Devguradia area in Indore on Monday, when they were travelling in a white SUV.

Verma, who had reward of Rs 15,000 on his head and is the nephew of Congress leader and former MP from Shajapur, Sajjan Singh Verma, was on the run after he was accused of giving contract to a killer to eliminate a Hoshangabad-based sand trader.

Verma, who is also a real estate developer, had been booked under Sections 399, 402, 212 of IPC, 25, 27 of Arms Act and 51 of the Wildlife Act. He had been absconding since September.

The crime branch had received a tip off that Verma would be travelling in a white SUV from Harda and go on the Manawar road to reach his relatives in Mhow.

Crime branch team was waiting at the Devguradia crossing and stopped Verma’s car near the Punjabi dhaba and arrested him and Yogendra.

Police said that during questioning, Verma told them that he wanted to create his dominance in the sand trade as he wanted cheap sand for his construction business. So he hired shooters Anil Patidar and Golu to kill a big sand trader of Hoshngabad.

To finalise the deal he had used the mobile phone of one of his employees to avoid detection. Verma’s name surfaced when Anil Patidar and Golu were arrested by Aerodrome police on tip off of the Hoshagabad police and they spilled the beans.

During the time he was on the run, Verma had become a tourist. He had gone to Daman and Diu, Mount Abu, Kanha-Kisli, Nasik. In fact he was returning from Kanha Kisli via Harda when he was arrested.

Yogendra was acting as his driver and he said he had been driving Verma around for the past 10-12 days.
