Alleging lack of interest on the part of police to trace her missing husband, a woman along with her five children decided to end her life on the railway tracks on Tuesday.

The incident happened around 12pm near Shastri Bridge, only few metres away from Indore railway station’s platform No 4, when a few passengers and loco pilots noticed Munni Bai, 45, wife of Deshraj Sen, sitting on railway tracks along with her five children. The matter was immediately reported to the GRP officials, who rushed to the spot to take control of the situation. .

Narrating her ordeal, Aarti the eldest of the five siblings, alleged that the local police were not doing much to help them trace their father.

Deshraj Sen went missing in April. He left house on his bicycle but did not return. We registered a missing report at Heera Nagar police station on May 22, but to no avail.

The case came up at the collector’s public hearing held last Tuesday, when the family pleaded the officers to look into the matter. The family is currently being supported by Aarti’s grandmother and her maternal uncles.

Suspecting abduction, Aarti said her father took money from one Pankaj from Kalani Nagar, Indore and failed to pay back.

Shashikant Chourasia, Heera Nagar police station in-charge, said police is still investigating the case.

“They filed a complaint a month after Deshraj went missing. Had they complained immediately, it would have been easier for us to trace him. However, we are still working on the case,” he said.
