A CRPF constable hailing from Jharkhand, who was absconding after being charged with sexually harassing and blackmailing an Indore woman, surrendered before the police on Tuesday.

Sant Kumar, who befriended a woman on Facebook, allegedly blackmailed the woman for money with photographs and videos taken during their courtship, and shared them with his friend. In November, 2014, a case was lodged against the constable in Hira Nagar police station under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.

The woman told the police she became friends with Kumar, posted in Assam, in 2013. The relationship grew and they met in Lucknow and stayed together in a hotel. A few days after coming back to Indore, she got a call from Kumar's friend saying he had with him her video clips.

On August 10, 2014, Kumar came to Indore to meet her and told her he had shared with his friend her video clips. The woman lodged a complaint with the police. They nabbed Kumar and brought him to Hira Nagar police station.

To save himself, Kumar assured the police he would marry the woman. However, about a month later, he and his friend began blackmailing the woman for money. "We raided Bokaro (Jharkhand) twice and created pressure departmentally. At last, Sant Kumar surrendered," said Hira Nagar station inspector Shashikant Chaurasia.
