MP: BJP, Congress workers clash ahead of panchayat elections, 10 injured

Ten people were injured in a clash between Congress and BJP supporters on Friday ahead of the panchayat elections on February 5.

The fight broke out over alleged illegal transportation of 30 boxes of liquor at Dhawli in Warla police station limit. Police, on late Friday, booked more than 50 persons including vice president of Janpad Panchayat Sendhwa (JPS) and his son.According to the police, on the complaint of one Sohan (a Congress supporter) of village Dhawli, police booked vice president of JPS, Tarachand Rathod, his son Vijay and twenty others. Police have also booked Congress candidate Dileep and 30 others on the complaint of BJP’s Himmat Rao Jadhaw.

According to police, Congressmen Chotu and Dileep were caught by Rao and other BJP workers while transporting liquor in a car near Dhawli village. The BJP supporters alleged that the Congressmen were influencing voters with alcohol in the run up to the panchayat polls and informed the police. By the time the police came, both the groups started pelting stones on each other that left 10 people injured.

Police have also registered a case for illegal transportation of liquor and have seized a Tavera car with 30 boxes of liquor. Later, both the groups gathered in Warla police station premises demanding actions against each other. The district Congress president Sukhlal Parmar and ex-MLA GL Rawat too reached the police station.
