The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has begun preparations for the first high-tech mega membership drive, to be held at Vaishnav stadium here on December 22.

During the drive, chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will ask people present at the venue to join BJP by enrolling themselves through their mobile phones, said party officials. The people will be asked to dial the number released by the party to register for the membership drive. Though this exercise will last for a few minutes and will follow CM’s brief speech, BJP wants to make it memorable so as to enthuse and motivate young people to join the party, the officials said.

The party has set up a target to enroll five lakh members in the city, according to city BJP president Kailash Sharma. This will include those whose party membership is to be renewed. The membership is renewed every third year.

At present, BJP has two lakh members in the city.

In order to make the mega BJP membership campaign a success, meetings are being held at the level of polling booth, mandals, municipal wards and assembly constituencies.
