A six-month-old baby girl was kidnapped from a marketplace at Sanawa town in Khargone district on Wednesday. CCTV footage from a nearby shop shows a woman carrying a baby girl which wore a dress similar to the victim.

Sanawad town inspector Vinod Soni said a case of kidnapping has been registered against the untraceable miscreant under Section 363 of IPC.

Police said Jankibai, wife of Sheru, had come to Pipal Chowk area with her three-year-old son Lokesh and six-month-old daughter Benu. She sat for a while with her children on the cemented platform outside a medical shop and went to buy vegetables, leaving Renu with Lokesh.

Finding her daughter missing after returning to Lokesh 15 minutes later, Jankibai raised alarm. The video footage was then shown to the police where a woman with long hair, wearing a green suit, was seen carrying a child wearing a red frock which was similar to that of Benu.

Police are suspecting that the culprit boarded a bus and have alerted nearby police stations.
