A local court on Wednesday directed MY Hospital to provide proper treatment to a mentally challenged pregnant woman.

The court’s directive came after the woman was refused treatment at major hospitals in the city including Sendhwa Civil Hospital and the Banganga Mental Hospital.

It also directed SP Indore and IG Indore to provide her a woman constable. The court also directed collector, Indore, to ensure that the woman gets proper treatment at MY hospital.

Meanwhile, Barwani superintendent of police Tilak Singh has also ordered a probe into the matter to find out if the woman was sexually assaulted.

The woman was spotted wandering on the streets of Sendhwa in an advanced stage of pregnancy on December 19 by local residents. A few locals informed the local administration and made a written request to SDM Sendhwa on December 19. The citizens also approached judicial magistrate first class Mahendra Pal Singh’s court in connection with the matter.

The woman was referred to various hospitals but was refused admission by hospital administrations citing various reasons including pregnancy. When the police re-approached the court on January 19 and described her situation, the court directed that the woman should be treated at the MY hospital, Indore.
