The leopard menace in Tirla block under Dhar district ended on Saturday as the forest department team trapped the wild cat near Sodliya village under Tirla police station limit.

The forest officials trapped the animal in a cage kept on the outskirts of Sodliya village where it killed a 12-year-old girl and injured one the next day.

Dhar divisional forest officer Gourav Choudhary said the team managed to trap the animal on late Friday night Choudhary said after two attacks in a row, the department pressed three search teams into duty.

“Cages were placed on the outskirts of the village with one dog placed inside the case to lure the animal,” Choudhary said.

Villagers claimed that least 10 people, mostly tribal kids, were either injured or killed by leopards in the area.

When asked about the future course of action, Choudhary said the animal would be transferred to the Indore zoo for medical treatment and the future course of action would be decided by higher authorities.
